A Progressive Ending

Sat, Jun 11, 2005; by Anthony.

The imbalance between how we value our selves and how we value our bodies is so great that some people care little for their current life, believing in a better one later. As a result, they might object to bodily pleasure, or abuse their health, they might even be willing to sacrifice themselves for their country or god, so great is their disregard for the bare facts of physical existence. But if these old notions and illusions are dispelled by rational thinking it becomes clear that we must give our bodies as well as our selves to posterity. It is the hard-work and thought of our selves *now* that will hopefully improve the lives of the future, so much so that they may then have the understanding to re-pay us by giving us a life again. The more people that work towards this goal, the more likely it will become manifest.

This is an important point that goes beyond our personal gain. Cryonauts are people with an interest in the future and in life. They want to see the future, to not have it robbed by death. They want to live long and well on this Earth and are not likely to be willing to devalue the body's importance and joys. If cryonauts are revived they will generally be intelligent and sensitive people with altruistic values. They will also be personalities from a past time, living records of a period historians will be studying. They will have a great deal to learn, but also a great deal to contribute. Posterity will benefit not just from the works of their previous lives, but also from their revival. Cryonauts can take heart in the fact that any society that revives them not only has the ability to do so, but also the wish to do so. Such a society will be motivated by similar values to cryonauts, values which emphasize the importance and beauty of life in the past, present and future, values which urge us to love and protect our bodies, values which are oriented around health and the proliferation of life, which are forward-looking and rationally progressive.
